Teaching CSS 143 at UW Bothell, I’ve seen many students struggle with communication and time management
skills early in their studies. It often shows up as missed deadlines, last-minute work, or waiting too long to ask
for help. Since there isn’t a course that addresses these skills for computer science and engineering students, I
invited Rochelly to speak with my class for help.

Before the talk, Rochelly would usually survey the students to understand their specific challenges. She then
tailored her session with real-world examples and insights from her corporate experience. Her interactive
teaching style gave students plenty of opportunities to respond, reflect, and even be positively challenged to
notice their blind spots. The way she practiced active listening during the lecture was a powerful example itself.
